I just had to blog a bit today. This won’t be a long post, but I needed to get on “paper” what I’m feeling today. I feel renewed. I feel like there is such tremendous hope. And, my friend, hope is something that can be hard to come by in a world full of economic turmoil, war, and despair.
Mike (our Sr. Pastor) and I sat through a meeting this morning that was geared to help churches become “vital” in their community. I loved the acronym V.I.T.A.L. and I wanted to share it with you:
V=Vision . . . What is God’s vision for HUMC
I=Incarnational . . . how are we being Christ’s body in the world?
T=Transformational . . . God makes all things new, so how can God help HUMC create a new wine skin to be accepting to the “new wine” (i.e., those who don’t know Christ yet) in our community?
A=Adaptive . . . what is God asking us to be and are we willing to adapt to become that?
L=LOVE . . . not just love those already in our church family, but to REALLY love those outside of these walls – to follow Christ into the community in that spirit of love!
Now, how is that for a great way to start your day? What if our church lived that acronym daily? Wow. All I can add to this is that I pray that the Lord will guide me in how to make this a reality at HUMC. Will you join me in that prayer?
