Wow. When I say life has been crazy, I’ve never meant it as much as I mean it today. This new appointment has been a BLESSING and I wouldn’t change a thing about it! But, my “work days” are packed and when I’m home I’m trying to consciously be AT HOME (reference an earlier post on how I’m trying to follow the Chinese proverb, “Be Here Now.”)
Anyway, although things are good, I feel the need to just stop and count my blessings this beautiful November day – the day before Thanksgiving. Yes, I’m just as inundated with the ads for Black Friday and I’m just as tired of making food and desserts for the big feast tomorrow. But, this is the one holiday that is just what it is – a time to give thanks! No religion tied to it, no pomp and circumstance, just “thanks!”
I read this post today and found it poignant – how often do we neglect saying the simple “thank yous” in life? I actually preached a sermon on this story in Luke about the ten lepers. It was one of my better sermons because that one guy who came back, looked for Jesus, and just wanted to say “thank you” actually GOT IT! He is the one who understood the blessing, the gift in Christ. He understood that the gift of cleansing and healing Christ gave him was an eternal gift – the same gift Christ indeed gives to us.
Enjoy this post – it’s by Craig Jutila, a guy I always enjoy following. Happy Thanksgiving!
